LEADERSHIP LINCOLN Engage | Connect | Serve
For more than thirty years we’ve been involved in Lincoln, encouraging people to engage, connect and serve.
ENGAGE Leadership Lincoln engages individuals from diverse backgrounds by providing them with the knowledge, experiences, skills and leadership tools that prepare them to become effective leaders within the community. Not only do we engage people in our programs, but we engage them in what makes Lincoln tick. Our programs feature many of the city’s leaders (and many of them are alumni of our programs) sharing their knowledge about a particular aspect of the community. Our participants learn that a community leader is anyone who engages with others to develop and sustain the health of our community. And, they don’t have to be in an official position to be engaged.
CONNECT Ask any Leadership Lincoln alum what they gained from their participation and most assuredly they’ll tell you they connected with people from across the community. They’ll go on to say that they connected with people outside their normal day-to-day routine. That’s especially true of our youth programs. When we engage high school sophomores, they’re still primarily focused on their neighborhood and their part of town. When they finish Youth Leadership Lincoln they’ll comment on the way their circle of connections has grown. Connecting through Leadership Lincoln continues throughout someone’s time in Lincoln. Some of our earliest classes stay in touch with one another, they call on each other for help and they’ll be quick to suggest you contact one of their Leadership Lincoln friends if you need help doing something to make Lincoln better.
SERVE Serving means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” Leadership Lincoln encourages and expects those individuals who complete our programs to take personal responsibility and actively serve the community resulting in a stronger and better Lincoln for all of us.
