EMERGENCY!!
Public Safety in Lincoln

Hot Topics opens the 2016-2017 year with a conversation about Public Safety in Lincoln. The city has new police and fire chiefs who took over duties earlier this year; the position of public safety director became contentious during the biennial budget negotiations. Topics for this conversation may include the philosophy of policing in Lincoln; changes in the types of calls that Fire and Rescue personnel answer; staffing concerns; how new officers/responders are recruited and trained; concerns about the changing nature of safety; police as front-line mental health responders; statistics about Lincoln’s crime rates.

Among the benefits of Leadership Lincoln is access to city leaders. Here’s a chance for alumni to meet our new safety officials. We also may be able to answer the question asked in Hot Topics session in July about the types of equipment firefighters take to various calls.

Jeff Bliemeister, Lincoln Police Department, Chief (Fellows XXIX)
